Ami Lad (2001), born in Navsari, is a visual artist working with photography, text, drawing, collage and found images. She graduated with Bachelor of Fine Arts (Applied Arts) in 2023 from Surat School of Fine Arts and is currently pursuing Master of Design in Photography Design from National Institute of Design, Gandhinagar. Her ongoing works focus on darkroom and alternate photographic processes and using found images and objects.
Her work is informed by her writings, her own experiences and how societal structures play a part in shaping one’s understanding of self. She explores meaning making through metaphorical imagery. Her work revolves around ideas of memory, self and home, along with an interest in research. Self-portraiture is an integral part of her practice, and she intends to incorporate elements of performance in it.
Her poems have been published in three anthologies – “Myriad – a pool of emotions”, “Hope of a new kind” and “Verses”. She is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer. She is currently based in Surat, Gujarat.
